Quilt 21 - Going in Circles!

It is March and I'm getting a little behind on my 'numbers' but this is a true UFO. I began this quilt in a class last year with Carol Taylor and when I got home, I set it aside.

 But now it is finished with circular quilting.

 I am pleased with the bright colors, but I need more practice on sewing curves to keep the puffiness out. Maybe I'll try another one some day!

And of course, the back! I always like interesting backs! Happy Stitching!

Quilt 20 - Kaleidoscope 2

 I made this quilt in the nineties and had quite a lot of fabrics left over.

 In fact, already cut, ready for another quilt!

 I shaded them around and came up with the quilt below.

 I only had about 4 triangles left that would not fit. I tried being 'artsy' with the side borders. Not sure it worked but I did it anyway!

 Here is a close-up of the swirls for the quilting. . .and border. . .

and more scrap fabrics for the back! Even the binding was left from the nautical quilt in January which I think just gave a great finish.

Quilt 19 - Chevron Quilt for Ari

 My niece who is having her third child in February. Her colors are gray and white with a chevron pattern. After I bought all these fabrics for her quilt, I found the actual chevron pattern at two quilt shops. Oh well, I'll go with my own creativity.

 I found this simple pattern at Crazy Mom Quilts and it was really simple to make without having to cut any triangles. You end up trimming the edges to square it up!

 Here was the finished design. I tried many different layouts and chose this.

A little close-up of the quilting!! My niece loved the quilt and now it's time for baby Ari to arrive!

Quilt 18 - Basket Case 2

 I had enough fabric/blocks left from the quilt I made for my daughter at Christmas to make another whole quilt. It went together quite easily since the blocks were already put together. I used up almost every single bit of the fabric - I like that!

This is for some friends of ours that really need a 'hug' this week. I put a flannel backing for warmth.

Quilt 17!

I have two great nephews coming soon so it's time for more baby quilts!

 This fabric was chosen because of the nautical theme for the baby's room. It is a simple pattern, Snapshots, from the book, Happy Hour, by Atkinson Designs.

Here is a close up. I was really happy that I decided to do the binding on the bias with the stripe. Just adds a special touch to it in my opinion. The parents were thrilled with the quilt and hopefully Alston is, too. 

Week ??? - Quilt 16!

 I'll admit, there was no way I could keep up a quilt a week but I am still going to document the quilts that I finish here and maybe one day I'll put this into a scrapbook or album. For now, it's easier to type and blog!

This quilt went to my daughter and her husband for Christmas. The colors were just perfect in their den and I put a flannel backing on it for warmth and they were thrilled with it. Since they live way in the south, I put the Request Quilters Dream batting which is not quite so thick.

and here is the flannel backing. I had enough blocks to add an extra row at the end so it is really long, which Sondra likes well!

Week Eighteen - Quilt Fifteen - Proton Quilt!

When my husband was treated for prostate cancer this spring in Jacksonville, Florida, he was a patient at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. They had art classes for children and adults alike and I spoke to the art teacher about quilting. As it turned out, I met two other quilters that helped some patients and family members make quilt blocks. All this began just as I was leaving.
This is the second quilt that has been made and I was happy to be able to quilt it for them. Brenda from Tennessee put the blocks together and sent it to me for the quilting and binding.

Many of these blocks were hand sewn as they could not have machines down on the main floor. I think it turned out so pretty and Brenda did a great job putting the blocks together and adding the border also.

I mailed the quilt this week and from what I understand, it will be hung in the center for others to view, and as patients come back for check-ups later on, they can see the quilt that they participated in making.
